Erin, what are the best schools in the Sacramento area? I get this question often from my buyer clients, and it is not a question I can answer -- and neither should any other realtors. Our opinion does not matter. For one, there are several ways to measure school performance by things like test scores, teacher/student ratios, attendance, or other things. What may be acceptable for me may not live up to your standards, or vice versa. Additionally, realtors cannot "steer" clients to one area over another. So -- the remedy when buyer clients ask me about school quality is to provide them with 3rd party data. I recently started using a tool that generates really nice and easy-to-read reports. I can run a report for different zip codes to illustrate a 10,000-foot view of schools in certain areas, and then drill down with reports school by school that provide more detailed information. 41st Annual East Sac Holiday Home Tour coming next weekend!

It's holiday home tour in East Sacramento again! 2014 marks the 41st annual Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour through the Fabulous 40's neighborhood. The homes showcase some amazing renovation and style while still preserving historic detail. All of the homes are decked out for the holidays too. Advance tickets can be purchased online or at a number of local stops (like East Sac Mercantile, Emigh Hardware, Collected Works, Summer Porch, Pottery World, East Sac Hardware, and others)  until the Thursday night prior to the tour start. This year's tour is Friday December 5th from 11am to 8pm, Saturday December 6th from 10am to 7pm, and Sunday December 7th from 11am to 5pm. Funds raised benefit Sacred Heart School.

Sacramento County Real Estate Statistics for March 2014

It's nice to see a stable, leveling off of home prices. As you can see from the graph to the left, the median home price for March 2014 in Sacramento County increased to $261,000; up ever so slightly over February 2014...the home buying season in Sacramento is definitely underway. I have several buyer clients who are aggressively looking for a home so that they can be ready to move in as their kids' school year comes to a close. The weather lately has certainly cooperated with that. Our dry and early spring we are experiencing here is helping spur buyer enthusiasm along.

Take a look at the huge spike in pending sales last month! It's a great time for sellers to list their homes as well...prices are strong and seemingly stable, and the buyers are ready to buy!

Greater Sacramento School Disctrict Boundary locator tool

Education.com today released a free mapping tool to assist folks to find out what school district certain properties fall into, AND in some areas, what the individual school boundaries are for your home address! I tested this for a few Sacramento neighborhoods and addresses, and it seems to be correct, though there is a disclaimer on their website that states they can not guarantee 100% accuracy. Try it! It's a great reference tool...and to be most certain of school districts and boundary lines, I suggest that you make a phone call the school district or school to confirm if a specific address falls within it's boundaries, and what the school's enrollment procedures are.

10th Annual Land Park Garden Tour & Tea is May 7, 2011 - benefits Holy Spirit School

The 10th annual Land Park Garden Tour and Tea will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 10am - 4pm. Private Land Park residences will open their gardens to the public for a single day. Tour and tea tickets may be purchased in advance by calling (916) 446-5700 or online. Tour tickets are also available at Capitol Nursery, Parkside Pharmacy, Collected Works, Lofings Lighting and at the Holy Spirit Parish School office. Tour tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the day of the event. Tour and tea tickets are $40 in advance. All funds raised benefit Holy Spirit School.

2nd Annual Sierra Oaks Garden Tour - benefits Sierra Oaks Elementary School

It's time for the 2nd annual Sierra Oaks Garden Tour! I was unable to attend last year's event, but I understand it was a great success. All funds raised benefit Sierra Oaks Elementary School programs.

The tour will take place on Sautrday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 and feature six beautiful gardens, five on prestigious Crocker Road and one on Sierra Oaks Drive. Raiding the Sock Aisle - Project 680's Biking for Socks

So, if you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you are probably aware that I am the 2010 Chair of the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council." Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting a local appraiser and Rancho Cordova resident, Ryan Lundquist, when he joined the YPC.

Ryan is also the man behind Project 680...a couple years back, he learned that there were 680 homeless students within the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District, and spearheaded a grass-roots effort to raise resources and awareness of this issue. Today that 680 has actually grown to 783 homeless students. It sure does not seem all that long ago that I was in high school - and it is hard for me to get my mind around not having some of life's basic necessities (like socks, underwear, deodorant, etc.) at that age. So Project 680 is doing "Biking for Socks" on May 8. It's a sock drive / community bike ride to raise awareness and gather socks for the homeless student population of FCUSD.

When I learned about this event from Ryan, I thought - well I will go buy and donate a bunch of socks...and possibly attend the community ride in May since I just got a new bicycle.

So if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you will already know that last Saturday I took a little excursion to Target to "Raid the Sock Aisle" for Project 680. I snapped a photo of the empty sock racks in the store and posted the following to Twitter:

My tweet about my raid of the sock aisle captured the attention of KCRA 3 Reporter Deirdre Fitzpatrick...and today, she filmed a story that will air in a couple weeks about Project 680. Ryan and I, along with some of Rancho Cordova's finest, went and raided the sock aisle again - this time on our bikes. Project 680's challenge to everyone: go raid the sock aisle! 2009 East Sacramento Holiday Home Tour - Fundraiser for Sacred Heart Parish School

It’s that time of year again!! Don’t miss your chance to attend one of my favorite annual holiday events, the 2009 Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour of the Fabulous 40’s neighborhood in East Sacramento! There will be 5 homes on tour, each featuring unique architectural styles.

This year, the tour schedule is Friday, December 4th, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, December 5th 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, December 6th 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Time is running out to purchase your tickets in advance for only $20! You can order them online, or you can purchase them at the Sacred Heart School office, or several local retail locations (such as William Glen, Haus by David Randall, La Maison Marche, Collected Works, etc.). Tickets at the event will be $30.

This fundraiser benefits Sacred Heart Parish School, and is organized by the Parents of Sacred Heart School.

It's Land Park Home Tour time!!

That's right! On May 18th from 10am - 4pm, several beautiful Land Park homes will be open for tour to help raise money for special visual and performing arts programs at Crocker-Riverside Elementary School, Sutterville Elementary School, California Middle School, and CK McClatchy High School. Tickets are $15 in advance, or $20 the day of the tour. Tickets can be purchased at Capital Nursury (4700 Freeport Blvd), Espresso Metro (2104 11th Avenue), and Vic's Ice Cream (3199 Riverside Blvd).

Neighborhood Spotlight: Arden Park

Arden Park is a wonderful Sacramento neighborhood bound by Watt Avenue to the west, Eastern Avenue to the east, Arden Way to the North, and Fair Oaks Blvd to the south.

A quick commute to downtown Sacramento, Arden Park is a highly sought neighborhood known for its close proximity to award-winning public schools, tree-lined streets, long-term residents, large lots, and well, its parks. The majority of the homes there were constructed in the 1950's era.

Nearby schools include Mariemont Elementary School, Arden Middle School, and Rio Americano High School.

There are two parks in the community - La Sierra Park (located in the middle of the neighborhood on La Sierra Drive), and Cresta Park (at the center of three streets - Las Cruces Drive, Esperanza Drive, and Cresta Way). La Sierra Park is home to the Arden Park Parks and Recreation Facility.

Arden Park is home to many community events, such as Easter Egg hunts, Soccer, 4th of July parades, Concerts in the Park, and more. Their neighborhood association is very committed to preserving the atmosphere of the neighborhood, and have formed many groups to promote community interests, such as the Arden Park Tree Foundation, Arden Park Neighborhood Preservation Area, Arden Park Homeowner's Association, etc.

Real estate prices in the neighborhood generally range from $400,000 on the low end to upward of $2,000,000.

Causeway Classic...

Boo for the Hornets...California State University, Sacramento was shut out by the University of California, Davis Aggies in the annual "Causeway Classic" football game...

When I attended CSUS, I always went to the Causeway Classic. I had lots of friends who went to UCD and it was always a fun event to attend with everyone. I think CSUS won only once out of the 5 years I went. ;-(
